People use 8.0 cause they give you better board control.. I started skating an 8 about one year ago... and wow... Kickflips, flip controlled, and tre flips rarely ever overflip... It's really up to the rider though... I'd say try an eight though... at first things will be a little harder... but once you get used to it... you will be glad you tried it.
