My Berrics

This week on freaked our Fridays…..IS BAM MARGERA A SELL OUT? How many of you remember CKY?(Camp Kill Yourself) the old landspeed wheels videos. These videos were really funny. I thought Bam and his boys were creative and put a twist on your normal skate videos. A twist mimicked by a lot of other companies since then. Did you know Bam put up his own money to finance the making, editing and mass producing of the first CKY videos? This is the incarnation of what turned into Jackass on MTV. When this show came out I thought it was really funny, I’m from the east coast so Bam on the show was right on, and from time to time there was actually skateboarding on the show. Then that show spawned Wildboyz (which I never watched) and Viva la Bam. This was kind of a continuation of jackass. This brings me to the point . Is Bam a sell-out? Now, let’s wax-intellectual about this. He is a skateboarder. He is ONE of us. He says it in the theme song for the show. So, by common logic, he has brought skateboarding to the American household and maybe some people that have never seen skateboarding or don’t know anything about it. Now, is he the best example of skateboarding culture? Does he represent us properly? Is he still out there filming and making video parts? Is he still promoting the companies he represents? These are the questions I ask when looking to call someone a sellout. Not the fact that he has his own show(s), or has his name on everything , or that he has more money at 30 than most will ever accumulate in their lifetime. The same can be said for Robbie Dyrdek. Funny though, he is doing the same thing that Bam did and no one is calling him a sellout. Is it because he is not as successful or marketable? In this industry we like to point fingers and hate on people. “Oh Bam’s got a lambo, he’s a sellout.” Why? Because he had an opportunity to make a lot of money , have a really good time doing it with all his friends, and not to mention having MTV escort, on their dollar, him and his boys around the world. I’d say that he is smart not a sell out! Guys and ladies we have to stop pointing fingers. Be stoked that one of us made it. Try to think about it in these terms, if one of your friends get sponsored, is he a sellout? What if it was your boy that got to that huge level? Remind you,This is your homie, a dude you started skating with, kick it with, shoot, held his hair when he’s puking face off. Would he be a sellout? ……I think all of you crying sellout….. sound a lot more like jealousy to me.

now these are my opinons.....I'm interested in what ALL of you have to say.

i dont think he's a sell out ..he was given a gig and took action on it. he helped sell the element brand. and sure he's got a weird 'fan' base but thats not his fault, he cant control something like that. he actually looks alil freaked at what some of his 'fans' do to his name.

anybody remember the first two years of Tony Hawk's Gigantic Skatepark Tour? that Bam is no different than the Bam today ..i'd just like to see him skate alil more. nothing big ..just skateboarding.

yes. i agree. first and foremost he is a skater. he should spend a little more time on his board. I also agree he has always been a little over the top with his antics, but that's just how he rolls. Thank you for your reply homie. Roll forever.

woah dude settle down spaz. I ask because i hear the little kids talk and i want to know opinions. That's how you feel i can respect that. I used bam as an example.

p.s. I don't think he would be pro if all he can do is an axel stall.
and before you try to argue that he was pro on toy machine, which means Ed templeton co-signed him being good enough to be pro. this was before anyone even knew who he was. Probably before you started skating.
