Sometimes when someone asks you a question, you have to respond with a question right back at them…..If someone asks you in a derogatory way "hey what tricks can YOU do?" ….
Try ignoring their question…let your skating do the talking, and ask them "Do you know how to have fun on your Skateboard?"
Skateboarding, in my old as dirt opinion.. should always only be about having fun. I don't care what kind of skating you're doing, if you're having fun, you're skating….if you are out there trying to impress other skaters with your tricks or teasing other kids for not "Skating as good as you" that's not all that cool…actually kinda lame …If someone we're to ask me what I'd like to see in Skateboarding….I would say just go out and have fun…be creative..who cares what other people think….."who's more foolish the fool or the fool who follows"??? Go out skate..think of cool tricks or just cruise down the street…..some people might know every tech trick, but they can't just cruise…if you are skating for the right reasons…you're having fun, if you're out there trying to be the best skater with all the sickest tricks and making fun of everyone else in the process…then you're in it for the wrong reasons and you don't understand skating for how I think it was meant to be…it's not a competition when you are out there with your friends….so think about it…do you know how to have fun on your skateboard?…that's the best trick in your bag if you do.

i tell everyone that the most important lesson in skating is that you don't need to be good to have fun, you have to have fun to be good. if you're having fun on your board and aren't being a complete douche then you're the best skater in the world, in my opinion. i sure as hell know how to have fun on my skateboard!!
i have to agree with you ive heard it so many times kids asking how to get good and how to get sponsored or noticed i just tell um skate and have fun let your skating do the talking not your mouth and whatever happens happens just have fun with it and practice practice practice
haha back when i first started was when i was having the most fun.
just crusin down the street, andd bombing hills, because i didnt know anything else.
now it just kinda gets me mad.
i will be skating a bench for fun,
and some super cocky kid is like
"hey ill beat you in skate for sure!!"
I learned a long time ago that there will always be someone younger and better than yourself. You're better off not sweating it and just keep doing your thing.
I will say that you shouldn't limit your fun. Try stuff out that you're not good at just to see what the attraction is. If you just skate ledges and haven't skated trannies, give it a good shot. Learn some rocks or some little ollies and grinds. The same thing applies to us bowl-trolls. Head over to a ledge spot or a manny pad and try out some new tricks. The only thing I don't really skate anymore are gaps because of my knees. Anything else is fair game.
I'm glad all of you see what I'm saying...let me add one more thought though.....even though I think Skating shouldn't be so much of a competition these days amongst friends, I do believe in progression....progression is great and with the ability to learn new tricks and progress, you start to look at various objects as skateable and it constantly opens up new ideas....Skating is a way to have fun, learn and progress as an Individual.....but I will say that when I was younger, it was always watching the older shredders that gave me that extra push to keep skating and getting better....and there isn't anything wrong with a Skate Competition at your local park, or the Dew Tour or X-Games....I just think right off the bat....don't worry about being better than every other kid in town....you don't have to tell them you're good...they will see that themselves if you actually are "good" I just see too much hating going on amongst the little shredders in our shop...some kids are even too embarrased to get on their board in front of the haters....it sucks but I guess you can't do too much about it...just promote positive Skateboarding
just read pete eldridge's interview in transworld.
he went through some tough shit
he got dropped from all his sponsors, he was dead broke, having to do odd jobs to get by, but he still skated every day.
his friend talked him into entering the dew tour and he qualified, went to every stop and got a stack for last place, paid the bills, talked to jamie thomas and got back in the game.
this dude has dedication and love for skateboarding.
haha true that. watch my videos, that's how i skateboard. haha. and true that, skateboarding is all about the way shit goes, and being cocky and being a rude kid to everyone else around you just makes you suck, no matter how good you are. plus it's no fun, and you're just a lamo haha. just skate, have fun, do that shit for the thrill, and shit will be right for you and you'll live a happy life haha
