My Berrics

ok so as most of you know, the berrics bangin' 2 contest is sponsored by ccs. now a lot of people hate on ccs because it's owned by footlocker and brings down the local shop scene. however, now they have a chance to give back. what are your thoughts?

its good that they are actually doing something for skateboarding
theres no way this is the berrics selling out though
steve himself warned us that he would need to start selling ad space and such to keep up with the rising costs from the site
he probably had to purchase more bandwidth because there is so much traffic on this site now

Wow, blasphemy...Actually I repsect FONZ for brining up and question. And mad props to Steve for chiming in himself. We all notice the increased ad presence, but consitantly I find myself impressed by the featured products in the ads or facinated in the wealth of info in the cross promotions. Steve is advertising in a revolutionary way... Advertising that supports the heart and sould of skateboarding. So we have CCS, but we're also privy to awesomeness like the Manifest! and many others... So I support it - I know the Vets crew does too.
Doritos rule.

PS Our local shop just closed. SO guess where Im bringing my business. The Berrics. My skate formula already supports this - Girl wood, check, Spitfires, check (they look beautiful btw) and aw crap - STEVE we need some trucks and bearings up in here!!!

I'll chime in on this as well since I'm browsing through the berrics looking at videos for MyBerrics Rebellion...
The bandwidth alone for the Berrics for the month of February was $10,000. Who do you think has to pay for that? That's right. Eric and I. That's a lot of money. We need advertising or we will be no more. Will you see Army ads up in this mother? Nope. Will you see beer or drug company advertising. Nope. Dating ads? Nope. Bank ads? Nope. Phone ads? maybe. Doritos? Hell yeah if they wanted to. I like Doritos, I think it would be sweet if they noticed skateboarding enough to advertise and give us some chips. Who would say no to that?

agreed man. thats alot of money for two people to pay. skateboarding is a little family, you are helping people that want to help you. not people who want to use you to make some extra money. ccs may come under some criticism but where i started skating there was no local shop, no parks, and maybe 2 kids on a walmart set up. a friend showed me a ccs and thats what got me into skateboarding. the free catalog with a few pictures was all i saw for the first year of my skateboarding life. thats where i got all my first stuff, i moved so i can go to the local shop now but places like ccs help to bring in those kids who dont have the luxury of a shop being in their town. all the berrics is doing is try to survive man. i am glad to see that the help they are getting stays in the family by advertising companies already that are down with skateboarding.

it was exactly the same for me, except i couldnt actually get anything from the mag
i would just look through it ALOT and wish i could get the new alien board or the new stage 9s, but i only got hand me down boards
the only skateboarding stuff my parents EVER bought me was an enjoi board, some pig wheels, and some speed demons bearings, and that was for my birthday lol
so i pretty much had to skate target boards and my cousin's old maple, blind, shorty's, and alien decks
but it was fun
thats why i think mega rich kids are missing something, coming up without having to struggle to get a board or haggle with a friend, trade some old destructos for a crappy deck, etc.

It's the people who buy from CCS, who have access to a local shop, that bring down the local shop scene. There's people here in other countries who NEED to buy from CCS in order to get anything related to skating because they literally have maybe 1 or 2 shops in their small country nowhere near them. The problem is now there's so many people who just open shops to "make a profit off of a multi billion dollar industry" that a lot of people don't want to support, but it's their local shop, so they go buy from CCS. So I guess it just depends on the situation, but the point is, in my opinion, the berrics isn't selling out =]
