So consolidated and a select number of skateboarders don't want you to buy Nike. They think that there should be constant strife between "skaters" and "jocks" Maybe they are right, or maybe Nike actually makes some of the best shoes around, maybe the money they are putting into developing a team and getting that team more coverage than anyone else is good for skateboarding, maybe the fact that they are getting people like Paul Rodriguez into the public spotlight is a good thing for skateboarding, maybe the fact that Nike is probably bringing more people into skateboarding with open mindedness than they are turning them away with hate. I say if they put some money back into the skate community the same way they do with the other sports they make shoes with i am down. Shoes are shoes when you get down to it. Its all personal preference.
So the go for Nike or not for Nike still continues and probably will for some time. Though it may be argued that a shoe is a shoe and what not I do not feel it is a good thing that Nike JUST got into making skateboard shoes. Of course when I say "just got into making skate shoes" I mean in the last few years. Now look at companies like DC, Vans, Fallen or any other skate shoes most of them if not all of them have been here from the beginning. It just seems to a lot of skaters that perhaps Nike is just getting into the industry because of the loyalty skaters have, or because there is money to be made but in all fairness they haven't been then from the get go through the rough and rougher times. When you pull in big names like Paul Rodriguez it seems to be more of a publicity event than a team that actually cares about skating...that is just my opinion but I would rather support a shoe company or a company in general that returns profits to the industry for parks, new products, future development, or events and Nike doesn't do any of that not for skateboarding that is but for basketball, football and every other sport they donate heavily too...so why not to skateboarding? Could it be they don't care? I am just giving my thoughts as I said I would rather support a company or shoes that support skating and right now Nike doest....long post I know I am done now.
Didn't Paul Rodriguez open up a public park with Nike, just like Rob Dyrdeks Plaza with DC not to long ago, and didn't the Nike Ams show up for the grand opening? They trying to win over some respect but some skateboarders just seem so fickle and conservative. They haven't been with skateboarding through the rougher times, that is very true I don't know what it says about them as a shoe company. I don't want to be part of something that will quickly dismiss something based solely on morals and speculation, and not on what they are actually doing.
This is true and I agree I was just saying that this is the position of most skaters and I as well and you have to admit they do fuel more money into Basketball than they do Skateboarding but everyone deserves their fair chance I just don't think among most skaters or core guys you will find much Nike love but like with everything I guess it will take time to see I mean I am sure every company went through this at some point and time but the fact that its Nike a major company that hasn't been in skating as long as everyone else I think that is the main point.
if you look at it that way you also have to look at the names behind it... nike lineups always have LEGENDS in the public eye in them... Jordan, LeBron, Kobe... hell ever derek jeter and guys like that... people whose names are synonymous with the sports they play and with the public... im 99% sure most ppl in the USA know who Jordan is, but you cant say the same about PRod. its all about how the skateboards support them... im sure if we back nike with all the stuff they do skate-wise you'll see a lot more things opening up in terms like that... a lot more nike sponsored events maybe nike parks opening up, etc etc... its not just whatthey do its what we do too...
I'm on the fence about Nikes, I like how basic the Stranfonski looks but dont know if I want to drop $70.00 on a pair. All the other poofy tongued sb's look like crap! Also Nike not having a skate background, is giving companies like K-swiss an oppurtunity to hop in to the skate industry. Which is totally ridiculous, even more ridiculous is Greg Lutzka joining there team...
its hard to say that a lot of companies have been with skating from the beginning because most of them went out of business during the tough times. ive seen pictures from back in the 80s of guys skating in nikes that resembled blazers and dunks. I think nike makes some good shoes in my opinion. whether they're crap or not depends on whoever is wearing them but i dont think its fair to say that they suck and they're not in it for skateboarding when a lot of core shops carry their shoes and they sponsor events
